Everyone said to dump our custom logging for a managed solution like Helicone. So we did. The migration was smooth, I'll give them that.
Six months in, our bill is 2.3x the initial estimate. The observability is fine, but the cost drivers are opaque. Every new feature we enable—custom metrics, user tracking, caching—adds another line item. Support is slow unless you're on the enterprise plan they keep pushing. Feels like we traded maintenance overhead for financial surprise.
You're just renting a different set of problems. The logging works, but the business model is the real product.
