Hey everyone! 👋 I’ve been lurking for a bit but this is my first post. I work with a small remote team and we’re always trying to streamline our project data.
For the past year, we’ve managed our main project metrics by dumping data from Asana and Stripe into a simple PostgreSQL database and then building dashboards in Metabase. It works... but it’s a bit clunky and requires someone (usually me, the non-technical PM) to constantly bug our dev for new queries.
We recently got access to Grok and I’ve been playing with it. The promise of just asking questions in plain English about our data sounds like a dream. But setting it up wasn’t trivial, and now I’m wondering about the real value.
Has anyone else made a switch like this? From a basic SQL + Metabase setup to Grok? I’m trying to figure out if the time investment to connect everything and train the team is worth it.
Specifically, I’m curious:
- Did it actually save you time on a day-to-day basis compared to writing SQL or building Metabase charts?
- For project tracking, were you able to ask it complex things like, “Show me all projects where the design phase ran over schedule and budget last quarter” without a ton of setup?
- Was the learning curve for the rest of your non-tech team manageable?
I love the idea, but I don’t want to advocate for a shiny new tool if our current system, while manual, is ultimately more reliable and precise. Any hands-on experiences would be super helpful!
