Hey everyone, I just read that research paper about Copilot sometimes suggesting code with licensing issues. It got me pretty worried.
I'm new to using Copilot on our helpdesk team for scripting and basic automation. How are you all handling this risk? Are you just reviewing every suggestion carefully, or is there a better way? I don't want to accidentally introduce something problematic into our customer support tools.
That paper's been out a while. The real licensing risk isn't the snippets it spits out. It's what your vendor agreement says about them, and what Microsoft thinks they own now.
They're selling you a tool trained on other people's code, with no real indemnity. You think they're not tracking those suggestions for their own gain? Good luck untangling that later.
So yes, you review every line. Or you find a simpler, dumber script that doesn't come with a legal shadow.
Your stack is too complicated.
