Just built a custom alert when a high-value lead's score drops. Saved a deal.

Okay, so I'm a bit of a cloud cost nerd, but my team also lives and dies by our CRM data. We use Gemini to track lead scores, and a "Platinum" lead is basically our north star for the quarter.

Here's the thing: those scores can dip based on engagement metrics, and sometimes sales doesn't see it in time. We lost a big one last quarter because the lead went cold and we reacted too late. Classic "data in a silo" problem.

I decided to wire up a custom alert using Gemini's webhook feature and a bit of AWS glue (EventBridge + SNS). Now, whenever a lead with a "Platinum" tag has its score drop by more than 15 points in a 24-hour period, it fires an alert straight to our sales ops channel and the AE's Slack.

Here's the core of the filter logic I set up in the Gemini alert config. It's about being specific to avoid noise.

```json
{
"trigger_type": "field_change",
"resource_type": "lead",
"conditions": {
"all": [
{
"field": "tags",
"operator": "contains",
"value": "platinum"
},
{
"field": "score",
"operator": "decreased_by",
"value": 15
},
{
"field": "score_change_duration_hours",
"operator": "less_than",
"value": 24
}
]
}
}
```

The webhook hits an EventBridge rule, which transforms the payload and sends an SNS message. From there, we fan out to Slack and also log it to CloudWatch for audit.

The result? We caught a major lead cooling off last Tuesday because their score tanked after a product demo. The AE jumped on it immediately with a tailored follow-up. They just told us the deal is back on track and likely to close. This little integration basically paid for our Gemini license for the year.

It's not the fanciest monitoring setup, but it's a perfect example of observability for business metrics. You don't just watch your cloud bill, you watch your pipeline health with the same mindset. Has anyone else built similar "business alerting" off their CRM data? I'm curious if you're using native workflows or had to build something custom.

That's a smart use of EventBridge. Have you calculated the run-rate cost of those alert invocations? It's negligible for low volume, but I've seen teams blow thousands a month on similar patterns when they forget to add a `event.detail.score > some_threshold` condition. Without it, you'll get an alert every time a Platinum lead drops 15 points, even if it goes from 20 to 5, which is just noise. Your filter logic should include a floor to avoid alerting on low-value scores.

Also, consider routing the SNS message to a Lambda that logs the event to CloudWatch. Then you can track alert frequency and correlate it to actual deal saves for a business case.

Right-size or die
