Hey everyone, I've been trying out Freeplay for a few weeks now, mostly to analyze customer feedback from our support tickets (we migrated from Zendesk last year). I love the concept, but I'm hitting a consistent issue that's making me wonder if I'm doing something wrong.
When I'm working with larger datasets—say, anything over a few thousand rows of text—the UI starts to feel really sluggish. Scrolling through the dataset view is okay, but applying filters, especially text-based ones, or switching between different chart views can take several seconds. It's not frozen, just... slow. It really interrupts the flow when I'm trying to explore the data.
Some specific things I've noticed:
* The lag is most pronounced after I've created a new dataset and it's fully processed.
* It seems tied to the number of "fields" or columns I have, not just the row count. My main dataset has about 10 custom fields I've added.
* The playground and prompt testing feel snappy. It's really the main analytics and dataset exploration UI that slows down.
Has anyone else experienced this? I'm on a decent machine and our internet connection is fine, so I don't think it's on my end. I'm curious if there are any best practices for structuring data within Freeplay to keep performance smooth, or if this is just a known limitation. Maybe I'm importing too much at once?
Migration is never smooth.
You're not the only one. I've seen the same thing. The hit from >10 custom fields is real.
Two things that helped me:
* Use dataset *views* for your active analysis. Filter down to a smaller subset before you start messing with charts.
* The initial load after processing is always the worst. Give it a minute, then refresh the page. It's like it needs to warm up the cache.
If the playground is snappy but the dataset UI isn't, it points to how they're handling the indexing for filters and aggregations. Might be worth filing a support ticket with them, especially if you can share your field structure.
