Hi everyone. I've been using Elicit for a few weeks now to help with research for a customer support knowledge base overhaul. I'm really impressed with how it can find and summarize relevant papers—it's been a huge time-saver.
But I've hit a snag. The exploratory phase of my project involves a lot of broad, iterative questions. I might ask a question, get a list of papers, read the summaries, and then immediately need to ask three or four follow-up or clarifying questions to dig deeper. With each of these costing a query, I'm watching my query balance disappear surprisingly fast. It makes me hesitant to explore tangents or ask the "what about..." questions that often lead to the most valuable insights.
I'm wondering if others have run into this, especially those using it for preliminary research or open-ended problem-solving. Do you have strategies for structuring your sessions to make the query count go further? Or do you find it forces you to be so precise in your questioning that it stifles the initial exploration? I love the tool, but the pricing model feels like it's geared more toward targeted, final-draft queries than the messy, iterative beginning stages.
