Got roped into making a bedtime story app for my niece. Used ElevenLabs. Actually... didn't hate it.

Wired up a simple script that takes a story prompt, generates a script with GPT, then pipes each character's dialogue through a unique ElevenLabs voice. The grandma sounds like a grandma, the dragon has a gravelly rumble, the mouse is squeaky. Kid loves it. The voice cloning is spooky good—made a voice for her dad reading one story.

Key was nailing the voice settings. Stability too high and everyone sounds like a bored robot. Too low and the dragon starts sounding like a squirrel on espresso. Found the sweet spot around 70% with a touch of style exaggeration for the cartoonish ones.

It's a gimmick, but it's the first time I've used a "creative" AI tool that didn't make me want to throw my laptop out the window. The API is tolerable, which is high praise coming from me.
