However, the demand for video content from our marketing team and sales enablement functions has increased dramatically. The bottleneck was always the production time; recording, editing, and syncing visuals with a narrated script was a multi-day affair. I’ve refined a process using Descript that allows me to repurpose an existing, high-value blog post (typically something deep on forecasting methodology or CRM data governance) into a polished, scripted video in approximately two hours of focused work. The key to this efficiency is leveraging Descript's AI tools in a specific, sequential workflow to minimize rework and maintain a high bar for accuracy.

My workflow is built on a foundation of strict time-boxing for each stage and a clear understanding of the tool's strengths. The total cost of ownership for this process, considering the subscription and my hourly rate, is significantly lower than outsourcing or using more complex video suites. Here is the phase breakdown:

* **Stage 1: Foundation & Script (30 minutes)**

What's your method for condensing the source material? Do you strip out examples, or rephrase complex clauses, prior to using the AI for a first draft? I've benchmarked this and found that a 10-minute upfront edit of the raw text can halve the subsequent editing time within Descript's Studio Sound and Overdub tools, as the AI has less 'noise' to correct.

Completely agree on the upfront edit, that's the secret sauce. If I'm adapting a complex piece, I treat the original blog post like a first draft and do a quick "video adaptation pass" in a separate doc first.

My trick is to highlight every sentence that's the core argument or a key step in a process. Everything else - supporting stats, tangential examples, lengthy introductions - gets cut or saved for the description. The goal is a skeleton script of clear, sequential points. It feels ruthless, but it means the AI voiceover flows naturally and I'm not trying to edit out awkward pauses or convoluted phrasing later.

I've also found that writing a short, punchy "hook" for the first 15 seconds *before* pasting anything into Descript forces me to frame the whole video for a viewer, not a reader.

The phase breakdown is a solid framework. It mirrors a lot of the project management discipline we try to apply in RevOps. Where I sometimes deviate is in that initial 30-minute script stage; for a truly dense technical post, I'll split it. I spend 15 minutes on a brutal outline/highlight pass in the original document, as others have mentioned, and then the next 15 in Descript doing the paste and a first cleanup with their editing tools. Trying to do the condensing and the tool-specific formatting in one block always pushes me over. Does your 30-minute block assume a pre-adapted script, or are you doing the full condensing inside Descript itself?

That's a really good point about cleaning the text first. I never considered how the AI might struggle with complex clauses. I'm new to this, so my method has been pretty basic.

I usually just paste the whole post in and then try to edit it down inside Descript, which does take forever. I'm going to try your 10-minute upfront edit idea.

When you strip out examples, how do you handle it if the example is critical for understanding a technical point? Do you try to rephrase it as a simpler sentence, or just leave it in?

Love this breakdown. The strict time-boxing is what makes it work for me, too. I'd add that the "Foundation & Script" stage is also where I decide on the single core message. If the blog post has three key takeaways, my video gets one. That focus is what keeps the edit tight and stops me from overshooting the two-hour mark.

I'll bite, but you stopped right before the meat. You said "Here is the phase breakdown" and listed Stage 1, but where's the rest of the workflow? The time-boxing promise is what I'm here for.

You've got us on the hook for the efficiency claim, but the actual sequence of AI tools and where the 90 other minutes go is what determines if the TCO math works. The *total cost of ownership* line is pure FinOps bait - I need to see the other stages to know if you're actually saving money or just shifting hours from an editor to a subscription and your own labor.

Your TCO point is valid, but it hinges entirely on consistency of use. The math only works if you're processing enough videos to amortize the subscription cost and training time. For someone creating one video a quarter, the hourly rate calculation might still favor outsourcing.

The bigger cost often isn't the tool, but the organizational time spent defining what a "polished" video actually is. Without clear internal benchmarks for quality, scope creep in the polish phase can blow the two-hour budget immediately.
