Has anyone tried using Descript's AI script writing for cold outreach videos? Any good?

Hey folks! 👋 I've been living in Descript for the past few weeks, mostly for editing podcast audio, but I kept staring at that "AI Script Writer" button in the video composer. My brain immediately went to cold outreachβ€”could this actually save time on those personalized video Loom messages I send to potential clients? I decided to run a little experiment this week and put it through its paces.

Here's my setup and what I found. I fed it prompts like:
> "Write a 45-second video script for a freelance web developer (me) reaching out to a small e-commerce business owner. Mention their specific site ('TheCoffeeNook.com'), highlight one specific UI issue I noticed, offer a quick audit, and keep it friendly but professional."

The generated first draft was... surprisingly decent in structure. It usually followed a pattern:
1. **Personalized greeting:** "Hi [Name], I was checking out TheCoffeeNook.com..."
2. **Specific observation:** "I noticed the checkout flow has a few extra steps that might be causing cart abandonment..."
3. **Value proposition:** "I specialize in streamlining e-commerce UX..."
4. **Soft call-to-action:** "If you're interested, I could put together a quick, free audit..."

But the tone was consistently offβ€”leaning either too robotic and salesy or weirdly casual. It also had a bad habit of making slightly presumptuous claims ("I can definitely increase your conversion rate") that I'd never write myself.

**My Workflow & The Real Test:**
I ended up developing a hybrid workflow that actually worked well:
1. Use the AI to generate a **bullet-point outline** based on my detailed prompt.
2. Copy that outline into a new Descript script.
3. **Record my video** naturally, using the outline as a guide, not a script. This kept it authentic.
4. Use Descript's editing magic to clean up my ums, ahs, and pauses.
5. Let the **AI overdub** generate a polished, alternate take of any specific sentence I stumbled on.

The biggest pro? It **kills the blank page problem**. Staring at an empty script is the worst part. The con? You **absolutely cannot use the raw output**. It's a starting block, not a finish line.

**A few specific pitfalls I noticed:**
* The AI **loves jargon**. It would insert phrases like "leverage a solutions-oriented approach" which is instant delete territory.
* It struggles with **humor or subtlety**. Any attempt to be "lightly funny" in the prompt resulted in cringe.
* You have to be **hyper-specific in the prompt**. "Sound like a friendly expert" gave better results than "write a script."

So, has anyone else tried this for sales or outreach vids? I'm curious if you've found better prompt formulas or if you think it's not worth the time compared to just winging it. The outline generation is the real win for me.
