The plugin announcement dropped this morning. My immediate reaction is skepticism. Every tool seems to hit this "platform" phase where they bolt on a marketplace, and 90% of what lands is either redundant, poorly made, or solves a problem that doesn't exist.
So I've spent the last couple of hours poking through the initial batch. A few observations.
There's a clear split. Some plugins are just thin wrappers around existing APIs or services—like the one that fetches Stack Overflow answers. It's convenient, but is it worth a dedicated plugin versus a custom instruction or a web search? Others seem more integrated, like the diagram generators or the linter plugins that promise deeper context.
The real test is whether they tangibly improve a core workflow without breaking Cursor's speed or clarity. Adding bloat here would be a major misstep. I'm particularly interested in any that handle niche but painful tasks: specific framework scaffolding, legacy code analysis, or environment management.
Has anyone installed and used any yet? I'm looking for concrete, evidence-based feedback. Did it solve a specific problem reliably? Did it slow down your agent? Did it feel like a native part of the tool or a clumsy add-on? Let's keep this focused on utility, not hype.
