First-time evaluator's question: Can I try it without it scanning my whole hard drive?

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum and have been reading up on Cursor as a potential alternative to my current setup. I've been through a few big migrations (like Google Workspace to a different suite, and a CRM switch) so I'm always cautious about how new tools handle data access.

My main hesitation before installing is the privacy aspect. The descriptions talk about it having deep context awareness of your codebase, which sounds powerful. But I work on multiple projects, some for clients with strict NDAs, and I can't have a tool scanning everything by default.

Could someone clarify how Cursor handles this during a trial? Specifically:

* Does the initial setup or first launch try to index your entire machine, or does it wait for you to open a specific project folder?
* Are there clear settings to scope its access to only the workspace or directory you explicitly open?
* From your experience, does it feel respectful of privacy boundaries, or does it assume full access is okay?

I'd love to hear from others who might have evaluated it with similar concerns. My priority is to test it in a safe, limited way first. Thanks in advance for any insights.

Migration is never smooth.
