Anyone else find the keyword tracking feature to be basically useless?

Let’s not mince words here. I’ve been through more CRMs than most people have had hot dinners—Salesforce, HubSpot, Pipedrive, you name it—and I always get suckered into trying the new “killer feature.” Consensus’s keyword tracking was this quarter’s shiny object for me. After three months of rigorous testing across a team of seven SDRs, my verdict is that it’s decorative at best, and at worst, a distraction masquerading as insight.

The core promise is seductive: automatically detect keywords in recorded calls and meetings to surface intent, competitor mentions, and pain points. In reality, the implementation feels like it was bolted on by an intern during a hackathon. My team’s experience has been a parade of false positives and critical misses.

* **The “Keyword” Definition is Absurdly Literal:** We tracked the competitor “Acme Co.” It reliably flagged any mention of “acme.” Great. It also flagged a prospect saying “a company I used to work for” because, phonetically, I suppose “a comp-” sounds close? The noise-to-signal ratio is astronomical. Meanwhile, a prospect spent ten minutes detailing why they left Acme Co.’s platform, using phrases like “their service,” “the legacy vendor,” and “our previous solution.” Not a single keyword hit. The context is everything, and the tool captures none of it.
* **Zero Actionable Intelligence:** So it tells me “pain point” was mentioned 12 times this month. Wonderful. What was the pain point? Was it pricing, implementation time, lack of an API? I have to go listen to all 12 calls anyway to find out, completely negating the supposed efficiency gain. A simple transcript search in any decent call recording tool does the same job, without the pretense of “analytics.”
* **Integration is a Afterthought:** The data sits in a siloed dashboard that doesn’t meaningfully connect to contact records, deal stages, or revenue reporting in a way my RevOps stack can consume. It’s a static report, not an operational trigger. I can’t build a workflow to automatically tag a contact or notify an account executive when a key competitor is mentioned, which is the entire point of tracking such a thing.

I’ve migrated data out of more systems than I care to admit, and I can already tell this “feature” would be the first thing left on the curb. It feels like a checkbox for the sales enablement brochure rather than a tool built for actual salespeople. Am I alone in this, or has anyone else found a way to make this output anything but a pretty, useless graph? Did I miss a configuration step, or is the emperor genuinely wearing no clothes?
