You're spot on about the S3 cost, but I think that's just the visible symptom. The real issue is that teams get sold on these state persistence features by vendors who conveniently forget to mention the exponential cost curve.

Baking in idempotency isn't just a dev time multiplier, it's a fundamental design shift most teams aren't ready for. You're now a bank, not a script. Every single external action needs a ledger, reconciliation logic, and manual override panels. The operational burden of that 'fix' often outweighs the original problem by an order of magnitude.
