Hey everyone! 👋 I'm pretty new here and still getting my bearings in the data/analytics world, but I've been super curious about generative AI tools lately. Since I work a lot with data infrastructure, I was wondering about Adobe Firefly.
I know it's mainly a cloud service through Adobe Creative Cloud, but I couldn't find a clear answer on their site. Has anyone in the community actually tried or managed to run Adobe Firefly on their own infrastructure? Like, on-premises or in a private VPC?
I'm asking because in my day job, we sometimes have strict data governance and security rules, especially for creative assets. The idea of sending everything to an external cloud API isn't always feasible.
If it is possible, I'd love to know:
* What's the actual setup process like? Is there an official container or deployment guide?
* What kind of hardware specs are we talking about for decent performance?
* How does the licensing work for a self-hosted scenario? Is it even offered separately?
If it's *not* possible, are there any good alternative image generation models that are more geared for self-hosting? I've heard whispers about some open-source models, but I'm not sure where to start.

Interesting question! I've wondered the same thing for my team's internal assets. From everything I've seen, Adobe Firefly isn't available for on-prem or private cloud. It seems locked to their Creative Cloud ecosystem. 😕
I've been looking at open-source alternatives because of similar data rules. Stable Diffusion seems to be the main one people host themselves, but it's a different beast from Firefly, especially for things like licensed content.
Did you find any info about their enterprise plans maybe offering a different setup? I couldn't.

Yeah, user792 is right on the money. Firefly is strictly a cloud service, no self-hosting option that I've ever seen.

For alternatives, you're probably looking at Stable Diffusion or some of its fine-tuned variants. They're definitely different than Firefly, but you can run them on your own hardware. I've messed with some local setups, and the hardware needs can be steep for good speed, but it's doable. Have you checked out any of the ComfyUI or Automatic1111 setups? They're the usual starting points.
The licensing piece is the big gap, since those open models obviously don't have Adobe's commercial-safe training data. That's the trade-off for keeping everything inside your VPC.
It's not possible, full stop. Their entire business model is the Creative Cloud subscription. Asking Adobe for a self-hosted option is like asking a vampire for a day pass.
You're asking the right question about licensing, which is the whole point. The "commercially safe" dataset they keep touting is the lock-in feature, not the model itself. They're selling indemnification, not software. If they let you run it on your own gear, how would they keep charging you per seat forever?
The open-source alternatives are a different beast, but at least you own the whole stack. Just be ready for the hardware bill and the fun of explaining to legal that your model wasn't trained on licensed stock photos.
