I've been conducting a series of controlled benchmarks on generative AI tools for commercial asset creation, focusing on workflow integration, output consistency, and time-to-production. The typical claim from vendors is "professional-grade assets in minutes." I decided to put Adobe Firefly (specifically the Image 3 Model in the web interface) to a practical, time-constrained test: generating a complete fake product catalog for a fictional boutique electronics brand, "Nexus Circuitry."

My hypothesis was that a usable, thematically consistent set of 15 product images and associated graphic elements could be generated and assembled within a two-hour window, starting from zero prompts. The goal was not artistic perfection, but commercial viabilityβ€”images good enough for a placeholder website or a pitch deck.

**Methodology & Workflow Breakdown:**

* **Phase 1: Prompt Engineering & Base Image Generation (45 mins)**
* Established a core prompt structure: `[product type] product photography, [specific aesthetic], on a minimalist neon-lit desk, cyberpunk aesthetic, vibrant accent lighting, detailed, clean, commercial shot`.
* I iteratively refined this base by adjusting `[specific aesthetic]` (e.g., "matte black anodized aluminum," "translucent smoked plastic," "glowing circuit board texture").
* Generated 3-4 variants per product type (wireless headphones, mechanical keyboard, smartwatch, etc.), selecting the single best output for the final catalog. The "Generate Similar" feature was critical for maintaining consistency.
* Key finding: The `commercial shot` and `product photography` tags in the prompt significantly reduced unwanted artistic stylization, yielding more straightforward, catalog-ready images.

* **Phase 2: Style Consistency & Asset Expansion (30 mins)**
* Used the "Reference Image" feature to enforce color palette and lighting style. I uploaded one successful "hero" image and generated complementary assets (close-ups of product details, isolated icons, background textures) using the same prompt formula.
* This proved efficient for creating a cohesive visual language without manually describing the lighting and mood each time.

* **Phase 3: Post-Processing & Assembly (45 mins)**
* Minimal post-processing was applied directly in Firefly's editor: primarily background removal (Generative Fill with a simple white prompt), minor contrast adjustments, and cropping.
* Assets were compiled into a simple Figma frame to simulate a catalog layout. No external software like Photoshop was used, to keep the test contained to the Firefly ecosystem.

**Results & Performance Metrics:**

* **Total Assets Generated:** 22 final images (15 main products, 7 detail/icon assets).
* **Time Allocation:** 110 minutes (slightly under the 2-hour budget).
* **Consistency Score (Subjective):** 8/10. The Reference Image feature is a force multiplier for style coherence.
* **Failure Rate:** Approximately 30% of initial generations were discarded due to unwanted artifacts, illogical product geometry, or style drift. The "Generate Similar" workflow mitigated this.
* **Biggest Pitfall:** The model still struggles with precise, functional text on product screens (e.g., a realistic-looking smartwatch UI) and perfectly symmetrical logos on devices. These required multiple generations and final selection.

The two-hour constraint forced a focus on prompt efficiency and iterative generation rather than perfecting single images. The integrated editing and background tools saved significant time. However, for products requiring high-fidelity, precise technical details, or specific branded elements, this workflow would still require substantial post-generation editing in dedicated software. The benchmark demonstrates a strong use-case for mood-setting and concept development at speed.

Interesting test, but you're only measuring half the cost. The real clock starts when you try to get commercial usage rights. Did you factor in the time (and likely legal fees) to verify your generated assets are actually cleared for commercial use? Adobe's indemnity has more fine print than their output.

Focusing on workflow integration and time-to-production is a solid angle for a benchmark. It's the practical constraint most of us face first.

When you say "commercial viability," though, I'd be keen to hear how you measured consistency across the 15 images. That's often the real time sink. Did you have to do many re-rolls or manual tweaks to get the "Nexus Circuitry" look to hold across different product types?

Wow, 15 images in two hours starting from zero is amazing. I've only ever used tools like Asana for tracking time on *existing* tasks, not generating the assets themselves.

Your core prompt structure seems so specific. Was it hard to land on that exact wording? I feel like my first attempts would just be "cool tech product" 😅

Did you find you had to adjust the prompts a lot for different product types, like headphones vs a keyboard, to keep them all looking like the same brand?
