Hey everyone! I'm still pretty new to all this, but I've been trying out a few AI writing tools for my documentation and blog drafts. I see a lot of "vs." videos, but I wanted a simple, repeatable way to test them myself before spending any money.
Here's my basic step-by-step method. I'd love to know if you do something similar!
**1. I write one clear prompt.** Something I'd actually use, like: "Write a short, beginner-friendly explanation of what a VPC is in AWS, using an analogy."
**2. I paste that same prompt into 2-3 different tools.** Usually the free tiers of the big names.
**3. I compare the raw outputs side-by-side.** I look for:
- Which one actually used a good, clear analogy?
- Did any get a technical detail wrong?
- Which feels more natural to read?
**4. I check how much editing I'd need.** I time myself fixing errors or changing the tone. The tool that needs the least editing usually wins for me.
For example, one tool gave me a solid "digital apartment building" analogy for a VPC. Another just listed definitions dryly. That told me a lot about their styles.
