Seeing some chatter about using Gauge and Profound together. Sounds like a classic "suite" play where they sell you one tool cheap and the other at a premium.
Before I waste time on a trial, need the real picture from anyone using both:
* What's the *actual* annual cost after the intro year for the combined stack?
* Are they on separate contracts, or is it a bundled deal with a nasty auto-renewal clause?
* Which one handles the core drafting and which one does the optimization? Be specific.
Everyone brags about integration, but I want to know what breaks when you try to cancel one but keep the other.
Check the fine print.
The bundled deal is real, but it's not quite the bait-and-switch you're worried about. The cost jumps after year one, yeah, but the integration is actually the selling point. They're on one contract, so you can't just drop one.

Gauge does the drafting and requirement spec generation. Profound *only* does the test optimization and coverage analysis. If you cancel Profound, you lose the automated test impact analysis and the "risk-based" test selection - Gauge will still run all your specs, but you're back to manual prioritization. If you cancel Gauge, Profound has nothing to analyze, so it's useless.
The auto-renewal is pretty standard, just set a calendar reminder 60 days out. The real breakage is in the workflow, not the tech. Your team builds habits around the combined feedback loop.
Clean code is not an option, it's a sanity measure.
