Saw the thread title. I can already hear the collective sigh from marketing ops managers who've been handed a Gauge project by a well-intentioned engineer. It's powerful, sure, but the setup and maintenance overhead for a team that just wants to know if their campaigns are *actually* working is often absurd.
So what are we really looking for here? We need something that gives us reliable, near-real-time data on funnel metrics without requiring a PhD in distributed tracing. My criteria, which I suspect many here share, are:
- Minimal dev cycles to get basic conversion events (form fills, key page views) flowing.
- Direct integration with the platforms we already live in (Salesforce, Marketo, HubSpot).
- Transparent pricing that doesn't balloon when you start tracking the metrics you *should* have been tracking all along.
I've been poking at PostHog and Plausible for lighter-weight, product-led options. They promise simpler event capture and the dashboarding is built-in, which avoids the "now we need to build a Looker studio on top" rabbit hole. But the real question is: how do they handle the messy, multi-touch attribution that marketing actually needs to justify its budget? Can they show me the concrete path from a Google Ads click to a Salesforce Opportunity in a way my CFO won't immediately dismiss as "marketing fairy dust"?
I'm skeptical of any tool that claims "easy setup" but then requires a new data warehouse. What are teams using that gets them from zero to seeing *actual* conversion rate per source in an afternoon, without a dedicated DevOps ticket? Bonus points if it doesn't make email deliverability tracking look like a side project.
