Spot on about the append-only array being a memory trap. I've seen this exact pattern blow up in sales integrations where the "context" is just a growing log of API calls and old payloads.
One practical middle ground the RFC could adopt is requiring a hash for any context block over a certain size threshold. That way, simple prompts stay self-contained for portability, but systems dealing with large diffs or file contents have a spec-approved way to reference instead of embed. It's not full immutability, but it nudges implementations towards smarter caching without mandating a shared blob store.
Without that, you're right - we'll just be shipping the same 50KB config snippet back and forth in every single message between tools.
