Because it’s taking a coffee break. Cold start, cold brew, same difference.
It’s your platform’s lazy scaling. No instances running? It spins up a new container, loads your code, initializes the runtime. That’s your 5 seconds. Happens after periods of inactivity. The fix? Keep it warm with scheduled pings, or pay for provisioned concurrency. But ask yourself: does this function *need* to be serverless? If it’s user-facing, that delay is a problem. If it’s a nightly batch job, who cares?
