Hey everyone, I've been living in Tableau for years but our team just made the jump to Looker (now Google Looker) as part of a broader platform consolidation. The pricing difference really caught me off guard, so I wanted to share our anonymized numbers for anyone else evaluating.

Our Tableau setup was for about 50 Creator licenses and 200 Explorer/Viewer seats. We were on an annual contract paying roughly $75k. That included Tableau Server hosting costs and basic support. We always felt the per-creator cost was steep, but it worked.

Switching to Looker, the model is completely different. It's not about user tiers in the same way. We're now on a flat annual fee based on data capacity and features, not individual user counts. Our quote came in at around $48k annually for comparable access across the team. The big win for us is that now everyone who needs it can build reports without us worrying about a per-creator license spike.

The catch? The implementation and learning curve are real costs on their own. And our data volume isn't huge. For larger companies, I've heard the Looker pricing can scale up significantly. But for our mid-size marketing team, consolidating analytics and CRM data, the flat fee structure is a game-changer for budget predictability. Anyone else made a similar switch? Would love to hear how the pricing landed for you.
