Our team is preparing to upgrade our financial consolidation and close process, and we've narrowed the field to two major contenders: Sage Intacct and Oracle NetSuite. We're a retail operation with about 200 users across HQ, warehouses, and a growing number of physical stores. The primary goal is to cut down our close timeline and improve accuracy, particularly around intercompany transactions and multi-location reporting.
I'm looking for insights that go beyond the standard feature sheets. For those who have implemented either platform in a similar multi-entity retail environment:
* How did the **dimensional reporting** and **consolidation engine** handle the complexities of retail—think inventory valuation impacts, location-specific adjustments, and currency handling for imported goods?
* What was the **real-world reliability** of the native general ledger sync with other critical systems (e.g., POS, payroll, warehouse management)? Were there unexpected gaps that required heavy customization?
* From a **process and people perspective**, how steep was the learning curve for your accounting team during the first few closes? Did one platform feel more intuitive for accountants over IT staff?
We value vendor-neutral advice here. Please share your direct experience, including any "gotchas" you encountered during the implementation or the first year of use. A focus on the actual financial close workflow—from sub-ledger reconciliation through to consolidated statements—would be most helpful.
Stay curious, stay critical.
