Hi everyone. I'm setting up a small data pipeline for our team and realized I should probably secure our network first 😅.
We're 5 people, fully remote, and our budget is... let's say "constrained". I need a firewall/VPN solution.
I've been researching FortiGate, but the pricing and complexity seem daunting for our tiny setup. I'm looking for alternatives that are:
* Cost-effective (open source or low monthly fee is ideal)
* Relatively easy to configure (I'm comfortable with config files, but not a networking expert)
* Supports site-to-site VPN for connecting to our cloud VPC.
I've seen names like pfSense, OPNsense, and maybe even Tailscale pop up. For our scale, is a hardware appliance overkill?
Could anyone share their stack or a simple setup that works? A basic config example for a cloud-based alternative would be incredibly helpful.
Thanks for any pointers!
