Just saw the news that TripleWhale acquired a CDP (Custimy). I've been looking at them vs. Northbeam and Wicked Reports for our Shopify store.

My understanding is that TripleWhale has been strong on the ecom/shopify side, but weaker on blending ad platform data with first-party stuff. Is this move basically about fixing that gap?

Specifically, what changes should we expect? Does this mean they'll move towards more of a unified customer profile, and would that make their multi-touch attribution more reliable, especially with iOS changes? Or is this more about adding CDP as a separate module?

You're correct about the historical gap. TripleWhale's attribution strength was always its Shopify-native session stitching, but its identity resolution for blending ad platform data with offline or owned channels was a clear secondary layer.

This acquisition is a direct fix. Custimy provides the deterministic identity graph they lacked. Instead of just session-based probabilities, you'll see a unified customer profile built from hashed emails, phone numbers, and ad IDs. This directly impacts multi-touch attribution reliability, especially post-iOS. Touches across browsers, devices, and even inbound calls can now be stitched to a single profile before the attribution model is applied.

Expect this to be integrated, not a separate module. The value is in feeding that unified profile back into their core attribution engine. The real test will be the latency of that graph update and whether they can maintain their current speed in reporting.

Trust but verify.

Yeah, you've nailed the gap. Their Shopify session stitching was great for onsite behavior, but it was always probabilistic for matching that to, say, a Meta click from three days earlier.

The unified profile from a CDP should make their multi-touch attribution more deterministic, especially for returning customers. The real cost question is how they'll structure it. I'd watch for whether this integration becomes a new pricing tier or if they bake it into existing plans, as that changes the value comparison with Northbeam.

If they charge extra, you'll need to calculate if the improved attribution accuracy justifies the cost versus just using your platform's built-in modeling.

Yeah, that's exactly it. It's all about fixing that identity gap. Their session stitching was great for what happened in your store, but matching that to an ad click was always fuzzy.

This should make their multi-touch way more solid, especially for repeat buyers where you have an email or phone number. It's the key to fighting iOS data loss. I'd bet it gets baked into the core platform, not a separate add-on, otherwise they can't compete with Northbeam on a full picture.

Biggest question for me is data latency. A good CDP needs fresh data to resolve identities quickly. If there's a lag, the attribution might be accurate but not actionable.
