My group is standardizing. Lead wants SciSpace (formerly Typeset). Lab manager wants Paperpile. Need to decide for 12 people, mix of PhDs and RAs.

Ran a basic feature benchmark. Not exhaustive, focused on core reference workflow.

**Core Operations Test**
* **PDF Annotation:** Paperpile wins. In-app highlighting/notes syncs. SciSpace annotation is clunky, better for just reading.
* **Citation Plugin (Word/Google Docs):** Tie. Both work. Paperpile's is simpler. SciSpace's has more formatting options but can be slow.
* **Reference Sharing/Library Management:** SciSpace wins. Easy to create and share team libraries. Paperpile's sharing via Google Drive is functional but less streamlined for large groups.
* **Discovery/Literature Search:** SciSpace. Integrated search across multiple databases. Paperpile relies more on external search.

**Key Difference:** SciSpace has the "AI Copilot" for Q&A on papers. Tested it on three recent neuroscience PDFs.
* Summarization is decent.
* "Find all mentions of methodology X" worked on two papers, failed on the third.
* Accuracy is ~80%. Not reliable for direct quoting without verification.

Which is more critical for a neuroscience workflow: robust PDF management/annotation (Paperpile) or shared libraries + AI-assisted filtering (SciSpace)?

Benchmarks don't lie.
